What We Collect
SightPrompt is designed with privacy in mind. The app itself contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking. All your data stays on your device.
The only external communication happens when you explicitly request AI analysis of a screenshot, which requires sending data to OpenRouter's API.
What You Send to AI Services
When you circle something on screen and request analysis, SightPrompt sends:
- The captured screenshot (with your circle annotation)
- Your prompt text
This data is sent to OpenRouter, which routes your request to the AI model you've selected. Requests include an app identifier ("SightPrompt") for OpenRouter's analytics, but no user-identifying information is sent. OpenRouter may process your data through various AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.) depending on the model.
We recommend reviewing OpenRouter's Privacy Policy to understand how your data is handled by their service and upstream AI providers.
Local Data Storage
SightPrompt stores data locally on your Mac in the following locations:
- Screenshots and AI responses: Stored in SwiftData (local database) for history feature
- Your prompts: Stored in UserDefaults (standard macOS preferences)
- OpenRouter API key: Stored securely in macOS Keychain
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly request AI analysis.
Website Analytics
This website uses Simple Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
- Cookieless and privacy-friendly - no consent banner needed
- No personal data collected
- No cross-site tracking
- Helps us understand which pages are visited

Email Collection
If you choose to provide your email address on this website:
- Collection is entirely optional
- Used only for product updates and announcements
- Never sold or shared with third parties
- Managed by Buttondown, a privacy-focused newsletter service
Your Control
You have full control over your data:
- App history: Delete via the History menu in SightPrompt
- All local data: Uninstalling the app removes all stored data
- Email subscription: Email privacy@neonthunder.dev to request removal from our mailing list
